The bearing's shaft and housing washers have convex and concave spherical surfaces, respectively, which means that they can withstand primarily axial loads, but also combined (radial and axial) loads.

Thrust plain bearings are designed to accommodate radial and combined radial and axial loads. This specific design includes a combined steel/PTFE FRP sliding contact surface that is maintenance-free. However, relubrication, which can be performed from both sides, can extend the economic life of the bearing.
